Knicker and butt ogling

Australia's latest fast bowling spearhead Mitchell Johnson seems to have managed to land a superhot WAG (Wives and Girlfriends). Introducing Mitchell's girlfriend Jessica Bratich.

Mitchell and Jessica went shopping for Australian Cricket Awards day (where Mitchell was the hands on favorite to win the cricketer of the year award), and in a moment of utter brain-fartiness the couple decided to pick a weird yellow wrap fabric which was somehow labeled as a summer dress. Unfortunately come Awards day, the wind decided to get naughty and as the couple walked in, the dress was blown all over the place. Fortunately for us we get to view Jessica's matching yellow knickers.

Mitchell btw played the part of chivalrous knight to perfection, dismissing the incident as an unfortunate case of blowing winds, he even wore a yellow tie to match his gf's yellow clown dress.

The month however has not been kind to red carpet celebrities. Harry Potter's Emma Watson (super-hottie potential) got bitch-drenched on the Half-born prince premier night and ended up giving us some more knicker views

On another red carpet of a different kind Obama and that French trash Sarkozy, having no rain/wind in sight, decided to try and make the best of the dreary situation

T20 prediction

Jason will attack Lords with a 10 foot long razor sharp cricket bat and cut off Ajantha Mendis' balls. Pakistan being used to such acts of terrorism will take fullest advantage of the pandemonium and lift the trophy.

It would be later revealed that it was Yuvraj Singh, tired of being out-foxed by Mendis, wearing a borrowed leather/skull-face mask and posing as Jason. Subsequently he would be awarded the Paramvir Chakra for supreme service and bravery on the cricket field. Mendis' balls will be on display at the Indian National Museum.

Rinse and repeat offset by a tooth

Following up on last monday's win, I managed to win this same tournament again this monday, setting up nice back-to-back monday wins. But the run-good in poker has been offset by a massive toothache that decided to rear up its ugly head on Tuesday afternoon and doesnt show any signs of giving up, so much so that I got over my intense fear of dentists and actually set up an appointment for later today.

Needless to say I am super-scared, if there is one breed of doctors that flip the shit out of me its the dentists, I guess watching Marathon man too many times does that to you.

A live tourney win

I havent played live poker for a very very long time, so yesterday I decided to play in this smallish semi-decent tourney (structure-wise) that runs in houston every monday and thurday. Its a $60 buy-in, gets about 45-50 players and 1st is about 1.2-1.5kish.

Starting table description: huge donks all around who have no clue about tournament poker, insanely loose in the early stages literally playing any 2 cards and insanely tight in the later stages and closer to the final table/money, 1 semi-decent middle-age player.

Some hands:

1. my stack 6500, 50/100 blinds: I havent played a hand and open 3-6cc UTG to 300, old man next to me calls, one of the better players (BP1)(very tight though, about 10k stack) raises from the button to 1k, I call, old man folds. Flop 3 2 K (one club), I check call 800 bet (??), turn 6d, I check shove his bet and crack Aces, upto 11k. Start building up a loose crazy table image.

2. stack 10kish, 50/100, I call an insanely bald-bad-middle-eastern (BBME) player's utg limp with 55 from utg+2, 2 more callers, serial killer (SK) looking horrendously bad player makes it 350 (??) from the button, utg bad-player calls, i call, flop KK5 (nutzo baby), checks around, Turn 7, utg bets out 700, I flat, button hems and haws and hollywoods (we are'nt on TV you stupid fuck) and calls, river 7 (board 5KK77), fuck me.. utg leads 1400, i snap fold, terribad button hems and calls, utg shows A high, button shows QQ.. sigh donks, down to 7.8kish

3. stack 9kish, 100/200, BP1 ( semi-decent player from hand 1 limps), I complete SB with KcTc, BB checks.. flop Qc9c6c, i check, super-donk-middle-aged (SDM) BB leads 200, BP1 calls, I tiny raise to 900, SDM calls, BP1 calls... turn 5d, I lead 1350, SDM snap folds (???), semi decent player starts hemming and hawing, asks me if I have 2 pair and fnally calls, river 2d, I bet out 1350 (live players do not cll big river bets) and again BP1 hollywood calls, and mucks and says I had 2 pair on the flop (???? did he limp Q9/69/Q6 from MP, roll my eyes).. upto 15ksih

4. stack 13kish, blinds 100/200/25(antes), I open KhJh UTG to 575, donk middle aged next to me flats, donk in cap next to him flats, new semi competent young bluffy player (moved to our table, with 9k behind, played with him before) raises to 1700, I shove and get hollywood folds, upto 16k.

5. stack 16kish, blinds 200/400/50, I raise QcQs utg+2 to 1250, insanely tight middle aged donk in red cap snap shoves 5k, ultra short MP snap shoves 1.5k, I call and see Q7h and J8o and hold, upto 22kih.

No notable hands for some time after this, till with about 15 left the following hand occurs.

6. stack 28kish in the BB, 400/800/50, Semi decent player (BP1 from #1,#3, 23k behind, doesnt like to flip/race with decent stacks) opens utg+3 to 3700 (this means he either has JJ-, or AQ+), folds to me, i look down at TsTd, and shove, he gets all fidgety and looks in pain and finally calls with AKo, I win the flip and am chip leader with 40k+.

Final table. I am chip leader with a big stack 70k+, table has plenty of donkeys, bunch of short stacks (6 paid) and no decent players at all, but blinds are getting big

7. stack 70kish, 500/1000/100, I open 5c-8c UTG to 2200, another big stack terribad middle eastern young player (friend of bald dude from #2, 35kish behind) flats, flop 862r, I lead 2250, get called check down and win versus AK. (hmm didnt want to show my hand there).

Start opening liberally and get little resistance till players start pointing out "u opening lot of crap i think, u bully, one hand and you'll double us up" and some such shit, so tighten a little.

8. stack 80kish, 600/1200/100, I open 6c7c in UTG to 2900, good-natured-rich-terrible-at-poker lawyer shoves 11k from MP, I call and see him tabling 9dTd (????), flop 6d8dTc (flopped the joint), turn Qc, river Js, ok no biggie doubled up an ultra short stack thats all.

Hand dead till the following hand comes up,

9. 8 left,stack 55k, 600/1200/100, I have AsAc in MP,utg+2 (16k) opens to 5100 (??), bald-middle-eastern guy(30k) raises to 12000, I shove, utg+2 snap calls with AQ, bald guy hollywood folds and I hold.

Kind of easy sailing from there and go into heads-up with over 5:1 chip lead and win KQ vs AQ to take the tourney down. I might play this on thursday again, if I can haul my ass into the car for the 20 min ride. Easy money for the takings.

MS girl

While on our beach vacation, me and mrs.sen were fooling around with the camera and ended up shooting a mini photo session on the beach (me behind the lens as the expert photographer !!). My wife gets most of her suits from here and the company seems to be running a fun competition of sort for their customers.

So on a whim she sent in some of our vacation "photo-session" snaps and lo and behold we got an email today saying she won the june competition and she will be on the june edition of the 2009 malibu strings calender (comes with a 500 dollar gift voucher) as well as a request to be part of the malibu-string-girls-gang (invitation to the annual malibu string party at Vegas, all expenses covered)

Running good in life at the moment it seems.

ship it

The 2009 World series of poker (WSOP) is underway and I finally managed to satellite into the main event on my 4th try via a $650 satellite on Cake. 3 seats were guaranteed (12k packages for the winners), I pretty much got into cruise control from 30 left and went into the final table 2nd in chips. Was a pretty easy run in the home stretch, something that has not happened lately in tournaments for me.

Anyway the package includes : the 10k tournament buy-in plus 2k in expenses for the main event or the 10k buyin plus 1k travel expenses plus 5 day stay at the Rio,Vegas.
Heres how the main event schedule looks this year:

All I need to do now is squeeze in a vacation from work, my wife will make the trip with me, her first poker trip, unless she has some really pressing issues at schools (her phd qualifiers are right after the summer). For the time being I redeemed the package from Cake-poker as there are a ton of stuff that needs to go right at work for my vacation to come through, allowing me to play. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

big day tomorrow

Lately I have been playing cash games mostly online with the occassional shot at a tournament without much success. I can go on and on about the sick beats, coolers that I've had in tourneys recently, but then again I am not playing those too well either.
Usually when I am playing a couple of tournaments, I'd open up some Heads-up cash games and end up focusing on those.

Anyway tomorrow is a potential big day, am playing 4 biggies tomorrow. Heres the schedule:

  • $13 100k guarantee MiniFTOPS event 22 1:05PM
  • $126 1 million guarantee FTOPS event 22 1:00PM
  • $55 500k guarantee MiniFTOPS main event 6:05 PM
  • $550 5 million guarantee FTOPS main event 6:00 PM

I need to try and keep my focus as lately in tourneys I am losing my focus pretty quickly. Also RUN GOOD ONE TIME. Godspeed

On the Balla wishlist

I've been eyeing this piece for sometime now (well over 2 weeks to be precise), I saw it on a close buddy of mine who took down a 35k first place finish at the Bay shooting Star casino,CA, poker tourney last month (one I almost played, but bailed out at the last moment due to work commitments). Of course he's got an even balla time-piece, but this Breitling Super Avenger would do nicely for me. First I need a poker score this month, I have been running like a one-legged kenyan all of March, and on a mini 5k downswing.

In the meantime here some more balla time pieces for your viewing pleasure (snaps by Nat taken at the Bellagio 25k World poker tour main event, Las Vegas, last year, one on the extreme right belongs to online poker phenom Sorel "Imperium" Mizzi and is in the 75k range):

In the meantime I went ahead and bought a bunch of gold this week, primarily as a hedge, and also because the market is so damn expensive.

Irksome

1. People talking out of their arse at dinner parties.

2. Oh so you want to play poker for a living, wow thats kind of degen(erate) isnt it?

3. Gambling as a career, thats a first right?

4. How can slumdogg millionaire win even one oscar, its a pure desi masala movie yaar (usually from a dreaded desi chic who cant pronounce trainspotting).

5. You know, smoking kills.

6. I saw Pink Floyd in concert, did you know they are the greatest band of all time (sigh donk)

At this point, I think of Happy Gilmore, and try and conjure up images of a happy place, think of a happy place, do not, repeat DO NOT get sarcastic and start correcting them. But .... sigh

unzip my pants say you love me

At the recent Lakme fashion week, Akshay Kumar went, ummm lets see whats the right word, strip-teasey (?), and thus invoked the wrath of the indian moral brigade.

While walking the ramp he decided to stroll over to his wife and asked a bemused Twinkle Khanna to unbutton/unzip his jeans for her. Though there is something of a coochy-poochy lovey-dovey feel about asking your wife to publicly unzip your pants, whatever brownie points he managed to score in my books are lost due to those HORRENDOUS boots he's put on.

Whoever made Akshay wear those boots, please drink bleach and run into a brick wall ASAP.

Playing the Coushatta 1k

I dont usually like playing in small-buyin casino tournaments (primarily because of the mind-boggling testicularly retarded slowness of live poker vs online poker), but a friend convinced me to take this trip with him, later this month, to Louisiana for the Coushatta Casino 1k buy-in main event. Hopefully the event attracts atleast 300 players (so that 1st is atleast 50k to make the trip and staying in hotels for 4 days worthwhile, FYI: I hate travelling), but given the current economy that might be a stretch.

Anyway 300 is the magic number, if they get less than 300 players I'm out, not worth my time by any stretch.

Anyhoo today was bloody sunday of online poker, and somehow I convinced myself to play some sunday special donkament tourneys : Results : 0/11. LOL Donkaments.

starbucks loves israel

Today I went to my regular grocery store carrying my starbucks frapp , the store is owned and operated by a middle-aged, supremely chatty, affable, middle eastern bald dude. Now I have always suspected that he thinks that I am a muslim. Anyway as soon as I get in he greets me "You know you should never buy anything from starbucks", Why, "Anything you buy at starbucks a % of the money is sent to israel to kill muslim children". You sure about that, "Oh yes ask Jamil (his brother/something like that) here". Jamil :" Fucking child murderers, killing allah's sons."

Hmmmm.

As an aside I recently added up my one month starbucks expense : $356.44. The wise might say I am an SBUX addict.

Time for the upswing now !!

edit (02/07): made back 5 buy-ins after putting in a marathon all night session. Run good more please

effffff it

On a bad bad 10k downswing in poker.

Poker can be a brutal game and without proper discipline it can break a player. There could be extended periods where you put in the money as a 80-20 favorite only to see your donkey opponent catch a miracle card to bust you. This is what we poker players term a BAD BEAT.

One of my favourite online tournament pros Chetna "Rex55" Joshi puts it best in her blog, and curiously this does not just apply to poker, it applies to any difficult journey that anyone might decide to take up :

Bad beats are non-exclusive. They are blind to race, creed, and gender. They are merciless. Every single player that sits down to play cards, takes bad beats. The more you play, the more you take... the more hands you are dealt, the more likely it is statistically that you will take a bad beat.

So now if every single poker player is taking bad beats across the globe.. how is everyone dealing with them?

What is your standard reaction when you get bad beat?

*Do you curse and chat box spew?

*Do you donk out of all other tournies that are going well?

*Do you throw things or punch walls?

*Do you reach for alcohol and/or drugs?

*Do you tilt off your roll?

*Do you copy and paste your hand history and send it to all your buddies on messenger so they can now relive your bad beats along with their own?

*Do you take it out on your family and/or significant other?

*Do you take it out on yourself?

or..............

-Do you assess your play, your own decision, your role in the hand, learn what you can and move on?

The true damage of a bad beat isnt the hand itself....it is the aftermath that ensues...It is our inability to accept it for what it is...The damage lies in the snowball affect it has on everything else... when we allow it to permeate into other tournies... into a bankroll we grinded so long and so hard for... into our personal lives.... that is where the true damage of bad beats take place.

How many poker players are equipped with the armor to tolerate the "blows" poker will undoubtedly fire at you?

The field is narrow...Most fall victim to the grimy hands of 'Tilt,' and SELF-defeat...
Don't let this be you...

Poker is all about perspective.

Don't wallow in your defeats or self-pity...
Don't question your abilities or skills...
Don't let yourself fall into a cold, dark abyss, with a tape recorder on repeat playing
"you suck at cards...you are a loser...how could you not have folded that hand? you donkey...stick to your day job...you have no hope...."

And Please don't surrender to bad beats...

It's all about our perspective...
Mind over matter...it is amazing how powerful self-perspective can be...
it is what we make of it...
what our mind creates of it...
it is what it is...
what we allow it to be...

Once you are able to keep bad beats in proper perspective for what they are.. an inherent part of the game that every participant has the choice to deal with, in his or her own way... then you will see how much more of your time and energy is spent constructively, as opposed to destructively...

and not only will you emerge a stronger Poker Player...but a stronger Person...

But even then its YUCKS and sucks to be in this downswing, and seeing a big chunk of my YTD profits beinf wiped out.....

inter-species molestation

From the BBC dig this. An apparently sexually frustrated fur seal "rapes" a hapless king penguin. Bestial porn limits itself to man/woman with a mammal (preferably donkeys), the fur seal in question obviously decided to put this limit to the test.

Chinese invasion

(a) My group has 16 members, 11 are chinese, 2 are korean and one is a russian. At work my English usage is extremely telegraphic in nature. I dont say "When will this work get done, oh will get done soon, great", instead I say "When done STOP soon done STOP good STOP".

(b) My lunch conversations primarily deal with the "how-tos and what-tos of consuming raw salmon" and being invited for weekend fishing trips which start at 10PM and last till 6 in the morning. Needless to say I politely decline, not because sporting a fishing pole in the middle of the might seem ungodly to some, but because I have to consume whatever I catch the next morning RAW.

(c) I have taken an unwordly liking to those damn crawfish(es).

(d) Watsao (fuck off)

World Series of Poker 2008 and telephonic intercourse

On one of the many online sites that I play, last night I won a seat to the World Series of Poker 2008 (WSOP) main event scheduled for early july, via a $150 satellite tournament.

I get : 10k USD(WSOP main event buy-in/entry free)+3k(expenses)+sponsored gear (cap/shirt/tshirt etc) that I have to wear. Now I am thinking of whether actually going or just taking the 13k. I hate travelling and Las Vegas is pretty far away, but then again this might be my only chance of being on ESPN plus 1st place pays close to 10 million USD!! Hmmmm..........Decisions, decisions ....sigh

In what I think is the greatest news of this century a woman has claimed that she was raped while having a super-eroctic phone conversation with a man and doctors confirmed that yes she is no longer a virgin. Apparently she screamed and started having the post-virginal bleeding stuff while her pristine woman-hood was being brutally savaged ala shakti kapoor by the man on the other end of the telephone.

PS: When Brad Pitt wakes up every morning next to Angelina Jolie, does he pat his own back and say "I screwed Angelina Jolie last night... wooooooooo" ??

random babel

Disclaimer: This is a general blabber thread based on the premise that I have time to waste and so I will waste it and if you read it then its a waste of time for you. Goodbye braincells.

As most if not all Indians know, the IPL is underway. There is an interesting snippet on Gaurav Sabnis' blog (too lazy to link it, go search on google/technorati/Baidu(if you are a chinese bored guy looking up cricket)) where he says that T20 is like a shot of tequila as compared to test match cricket which is more like a solid expensive scotch that "not many" can afford. I am a big cricket buff and avid cricket watcher (I have the disticntion of staying up every night from 1AM to 9AM watching the Pommie-Aussie Ashes classic) , and I have been trying like hell to watch and get interested in T20, but unfortunately (?) it doesnt quite cut for me. It seems soo darn BOORING, no excitement no drama, no critical stages/passage of play which you know is going to make or break the match, no stalwarth one-on-one battles, absolutely nothing that matches my definition of super exciting cricket. Complete utter waste.

By the way does anyone believe that Frasier is the greatest sitcom ever made??? I am so in love with it; have been ordering each and every season via netflix. On the same note how did the Raymond show ever gain popularity??? It is the single most braindead sitcom ever made, that coupled with the fact the Ray romano doesnt even make the cut as decent stand up comedian, his one man routines sucked, sucks and will suck. How did his pilot ever get approved???

My head hurts now... I am so enamoured by the sound of my own voice/words.
Anyway, that was that.

meh....

Poker over the past week is summarized in the title above. I am either lacking focus as of now or getting dished out wonderous beats. Last night I played 4 tourneys and the bustouts were:

So after a weekend of nice holidaying at San Antonio and spending a wonderful day at Seaworld its back to work :((. bit of an update on the vacation first.

Seaworld definitely has some of the best shows with sea creatures in the country. While they do not have a fish tank as good as those in say Baltimore or Monterey Bay, but by jove they have some super shows. Initially I was a bit disappointed when I saw Seaworld's Shark tank (compared to Monterey it was like my aquarium back home in India where if you strain and squint really hard you might find those two red fishes swimming by), but then the shows really blew my mind. Highly recommended for anyone who gets down to this part of the country.

As for the poker goes, not much to report really. What with the India-Aussie test match and watching India grind and huff and puff like a 18th century steam engine I must say my stomach for poker is not that great this week, though I do plan on putting on a decent session late tonight and over the weekend. On a cricket side note I am praying that India put on a stellar performance with the bat the second time, even though losing is inevitable.

Some results:

12/21/07: 50 NL (Cake)
Profit : $120
Hours played: ~2

12/25/07: Christmas shit on fulltilt where I tilted like hell and dropped 3 buyins
Profit: -$150
Hours played: Marathon session wherein I refused to quit, at one point I was up atleast a couple of buyins but proceeded to take a shot at 400NL (why for fuck's sake???) and was well decimated, to put it really politely.

12/27/07: 50NL (Cake and Pstars)
Profit: $57
Hours played: 1

Weekly results: 12/17/07-12/24/07
Profit: $50
Played: Minimal in a long time of only about 4 hours of total play.

Have a good time at the tables. Oh and when I get home I'll post an interesting (lucky?) hand from yesterday's session.
PS: My day job is really boring me :((

EDit:

Heres a hand from last night. The UTG had earlier be out with mid and bottom pair on the flop (after limping J5s !!) and so I figured my flush and my Q are alive. Hence the flop call and of course the golden turn.

Numbers game

The past two days I really havent got much time (i.e. undistracted time) to play, the house being full. I managed to squeak in a decent session yesterday on fulltilt starting off playing 1/2 limit and a combination of being card-dead/getting rivererd tilted me off so that I ended up dropping $80 in an hour and a half.
Limit playing is tricky than it otherwise seems, and its giving me more headache on tilt than elsewhere.

So i decided to put in an after dinner session on 50NL and 100 NL. Played really well and within an hour I had recovered my earlier loss to be back to even for the day. Infact would have made a small profit as well except that a player to my left made a spite call with A7-o after I had reraised him for the nth time with T-T and proceeded to spike his three outer on the flop door. But the board was super scary (A-9-K-K-J) and I lost the minimum. It seems that late night is a good time to play cash games as the players that are on are either tiring out or most of the regulars have gone. This is good thing to look into further. I'll be off for the weekend taking my paremts to San Antonio. So enjoy your vacation and god speed.

12/19/07-12/20/07: $20

Christmas Apple

Updated shopping list:

Mommy: i-pod+i-pod dock+speakers ---> check
Daddy: digicam ---> check
Sister: digicam --> check
Girlfriend: i-phone --> check
SELF: open to suggestions

Im really not getting enough time to play, so at the most I am putting in 1 hour sessions almost mostly on limit cash games. These are going rally profitable at the moment. I am also dabbling in no-limit short stack buy-in play and those seem to work as well.

12/16/07: 1/2 limit (fulltilt)
profit : $30 (20 mins)

12/17/07 : 1/2 limit (cake and fulltilt)
profit: $30 (2 hours, i got stuck in the fulltilt game where twice my top sets got rivered by 4 flushes).

I am trying to build my roll upto the 2-3k range on all the three sites I play, hopefully by the end of Feb (that would also be when I'll get more time to play). This time around I am hoping not to bust my roll by taking unrealistic shots and playing hugely outside my roll. (eg, sunday million, FT main event on 2k rolls).

Onion soup serving 20 *

Kitchen is not my favourite place in an apartment. The rule that I strongly enforce when it comes to the kitchen is this: Visit seldom, if and only if when in trouble. I like to think of the kicthen more in lines with a holy ground than any other useful addendum to the apartment. I set foot on this holy ground only as a last resort.

But a great man once said that one day every soul finds GOD and when HE beckons you, you blink your eye like a deer caught in bright red beacon and make your way to HIM. But when HE does call for you, he doesnt do it himself, HE prefers a proxy, something/someone called a prophet. The LORD after all likes to work in mysterious ways. A case in point being Sri Ramkrishna. Without him (the proxy aka prophet) imagine what would have happened to Vivekananda. Would he have ever left the hot humid sultry Calcutta summer, and made his way to a shitty, ice cold, frigid Chicago winter to attend some God forsaken religion assembly?? Would he?? Would he have given up his promising football career with Mohun-Bagan for writing incomprehensible "Vaanis" (mind twisiting religious one-liners) for which he would be cursed in the foulest possible tongue by generations of Grade VII- X students all over West Bengal. Think about it. would he???

Anyway, while you contemplate these heavy thoughts and proceed to lose your sleep in the process, let me tell you that over the weekend, all of a sudden, straight out of the blue moon, like tigers dancing in the rain and peacocks roaring in the Savannahs, one such afore-mentoned prophet paid me a visit. HIS name is SANJEEV KAPOOR (of Khana Khazana fame). Straight out of a modern "Born again" religious fanatic fable he appeared on my Mozilla web- browser and said:

Chicken Korma for 10, Hyderabadi Biriyani for a dozen, Rajput saag in bhumihaar daal (Award winning National unity dish) worth a grand.
Come son, Take my hand, come back to the (holy) kitchen land.
Let me see you Cook.

Thus at long last HE had called for me. But Aesop had taught me slow and steady wins the race. And so I wanted to pace myself properly during this new found pilgrimage of mine. Once again I looked to the prophet Sanjeev Kapoor Nothing fancy O prophet, only something that would point me in the right direction to begin with. Tathastu, he smiled, a few more clicks on the web browser, and there it was Onion soup for 20. Easy to make, delicious in taste, just like utterly butterly Amul butter.

Pick a big vessel and fill it to the brim with water, the prophet commanded. Filled I did. Now son put it on the stove and let it boil. Yes my messiah, let it. Let all thy damnations be boiled out of thee water. Grab 10 large onions and start chopping them down. This is the crusade not some kitty porn remember son. So Chop Chop. Holy shit. Dont take the Lord's name in vain son, remember you are in the holy land. But O great Sanjeev Sir, it has been ages since I have chopped anyone down, and while I chop this damned onions I feel pain, I feel sorrow, my tears wont stop, I miss my Mummy, my daddy, my auncle, my aunty, my dog and my cat. Dont sob like a girl, you useless bastard keep chopping. And chopped I did, and in the process of chopping down 10 onions I re-lived the pain, the pangs, the sorrow of 5 million years of human history, my shirt was soaked, my pants felt like wet sponge. I was crying for humankind. The pilgrimage had started.

Now get 6 large skinless potatoes. Quick. God damn it. I rummaged through my kitchen looking for these skin-less wonders, but alas none were to be found. I ran to the local grocery store, rummaged through sacks and sacks of potatoes, but not one skinless variety did I find. They all had this brown/red skin attached to them. Holy potatoes are indeed difficult to find. In a mode of desperation I finally knocked on Ellen's door (my next door neighbor and a hermin often found deep in meditation in the holy kitchen). Ellen do you happen to have skin-less potatoes, I couldnt find any, not one. She laughed and came back with a handful of these skin-less wonders. I looked at her amazed, Now here was a true believer. Throw these potatoes into the water, commanded the prophet. I tried. I promise you I tried. But my aim was never that good. Not one of those holy skin-less potatoes made their way into the pan. Some landed on the floor, others hit the wall making a splosy smudge in the process, one flew straight out of open window. The pilgrimage is never easy, I realized.

Idiot now put those chopped onions into the water. I did. And then doomday struck. The water was definitely not holy, it was the devil incarnate , boiling with rage as soon as the onions hit the water it snarled it hissed, it swore at me, and then made its way out of the pan and lunged for me. SHIIIITTTT. Damn the thing was angry, it burnt my foot, but still kept coming at me, hissing and snarling as it made its way out of the pan.

And so I ran, the crusade be damned, the pilgrimage be damned, the devil's after me now. But you can never outrun a pan of spilling, boiling, snarling water can you?? You cant. And so I tripped on that water and found myself covered in those chopped onions and that boiling water. I had to get to land, to safety. And so with one last effort I made my way to the chair and jumped on it. The hissing and snarling onion filled boiling water all around me chanting their devil hymns and trying their best to get at me

I was safe. I looked at the browser and the prophet smiled. And now you are ready to serve delicious onion soup good for 20. Enjoy. I looked down on the floor, at the onion soup, dazed, the LORD truly works in mysterious ways.

Mama Mia or Where you should go lingerie shopping for your girl

The list of things that can turn a guy more than seeing his girlfriend in a naughty school girl uniform (complete with pigtails and stockings) is, well, RARE and truly few and far between. But then, once in a while, not always mind you but just once in a while, you run into something that turns every turn-on logic on its head, gives it an all-mighty spin, and leaves you gasping for breath. And being the considerate human being that I am, without further adieu I shall present to you, dear girls and guys, the greatest piece of clothing ever conceived for the female form. Behold abracadara:

Yes Yes !! This is the CRYSTAL G-STRING, complete with a matching crystal bra. And as the manufacturers claim "It is fully adjustable --- fitting waist sizes 23"-38" ".

Wow!! Are you kidding me. You mean to say no more fumbling through layers of your girl's undies trying to read the tag and figuring out her exact size and then going to that damn Victoria store only to discover hey presto different brands have different ways of numbering their sizes !! And then the shop assistant would give you her million-watt-you-are-an-amateur-in this-thing-i-think smile while politely saying "first time for you sir". No you fucking bitch this isnt the first time, this is the bloody nth confusing time, and each time your fucking makers come up with more and more new and complex ways of numbering their lingerie. Damn you bitch. I wonder, though, do the girls realize how insanely fucking difficult it is for us guys to surprise them with those supposedly sensuous, intimate red-ribbon wrapped chocolate shaped boxes containing a sexy piece of lingerie.

But now, I can buy the sexiest piece of lingerie I have ever seen in my life without the hassle of working out the size conundrum. Now is that a bargain or not??

But then the bloody world is, well, bloody screwed up. So everything lovely somehow has a sting attached to its tail. In this case it happens to be the not so easy task of either getting into or getting out of the crystal g-string (with or without help), as well as wearing it with your fav pair of jeans and going out on a date. It is definitely not recommended for the faint of heart. Trust me on this.

Phoenixian Resurrection?

Returning to an old blog is like returning to a sad old ex, in more ways than one. The settings, the sights, the scenery look eerily familiar, but there is that niggling thought at the back of your head that the sex might have lost its zing. So you scratch your head, giving your nuts a well deserved break in a long long time, wondering whether it is worth the effort in the first place.

But then you wonder where else can you delve into details with regards to such deep and thought provoking, socially relevant subjects like cool dudes who love their i-pod (pod rhyming with load) or about orkut love-birds who send each other one liners representing such traumatizing bastardization of the english language as "cum on yahoo baby, im waiting for you to cum", discuss the merits and demerits of shooting your very own sex home videos, the demerits primarily being about you being paranoid about how your ass will look on tape .... not good not good at all, one piece of bloody horrific indian ass it would be..., provide expert advise on how to handle drunk girlfriends in an expert manner with minimal liability, talk about new and exciting places besides your apartment to have sex in (example an office space) and last but not the least make caustic acerbic fun of one and all.

However, SADLY, this blog has lost its once loyal reader-base. Even the bitchy feminists, the ex-es, those close to the ex-es, who would litter the comment space with raunchy comments, have moved over to greener pastures. So the resurrection looks, well, kind of iffy. But then there are just too many interesting tales being brewed up in the Jhant cafe and I am having too difficult a time keeping all of those to myself. And more importantly my balls are itching to make fun of a few chosen ones. And that in itself is worthy of a Ripley-esque resurrection.

Poker- History and Future 101

I started fiddling with cards many many years ago. But I started playing for money only much later. I think I was in class V or something when I had my first attack of jaundice (hepatitis for the technically bent amongst you), and jaundice/hepatitis as you know is one bimaari that gives you a guaranteed 1-2 month vacation, though it is not the idyllic kind as the diet you are forced to push down your throat is simply abysmal. Anyway it was during that jaundice-era that I started playing cards for money, with my Grandma that is (who by the way for some completely arbit and unfathomable reason was called Lalma by both me and my cousin sis). We used to play this wonderfully stupid game, inexplicably called "Fish" (it was kind of a poorer man's rummy in some ways), and whoever won would get 25 paise, and if the winner won by 300 points or more then he(i.e. me)/she (i.e Lalma) would earn an additional 25 paise. And believe me I grinded through hours and hours of "fish"ing during that jaundice-infested summer, often cooking the scorebook or setting-up the play deck so that yo get some really nice cards, and by the end of that summer I was the proud owner of a couple of 20 Rupee note. Voila!!

Anyhoo to cut a long story short I slowly graduated to the more brainy games primarily bridge and me and my bridge partner (the guy who taught me how to play the game and by far the best card player I have ever seen in my life) then started playing in small meant-for-fun local club tourneys. Now this wasnt for money. Because the club tourneys we played in, were not the hi-fi sophisticated clubs that you might think they were. These were instead those small shanty local clubs frequented by the people whose professions varied from being auto-drivers to fishmongers to the night-guards of residential complexes to that guy who owns that small paan-shop round the corner, but primarily those who didnt have any jobs. But I kid you not when I say that these guys were sharks when the decks were dealt out. They could guess with an amazingly high degree of accuracy the exact 13 cards that you held depending on the way you played. And of course there were bragging rights up for grabs, so the games were intensely competetive. And I had an additional advantage as well, since a bunch of these guys I played with were auto-drivers I got a huge number of free rides from my house to the auto-routes on which these guys operated (for the calcutta savvy that was free rides from garia-jadavpur/gariahat). Not bad eh!!

And then I came over to the States and got hooked onto this mother of all cash games -Texas Hold'em Poker. For those of you unfamiliar with it inspite of the constant programing on ESPN or inspite of that poker 's holy grail matt damon-ed norton starring rounders this is basically an advanced version of our desi bred teen-patti. Now contrary to what you think poker is not a luck game. It is game of great skills and this is one game which if you play skillfully in a casino you will not lose money, unlike Blackjack.

So to cut a short story long I started playing poker at Pennstate, first with friends (for cigarettes or beer but mainly for fun) and then more and more in local poker rooms in the Pennsylvania/Ohio area. Casinos you see are not legal in most of mainland USA and thus there were these private party run poker rooms where you can play these games, what you had to do was take your money there and play as long or as short a time as you want, the only thing you had to be worried about was that the poker room was properly run and it wasnt a scam operation. Anyway fortunately/unfortunately I discovered that I can make a fair amount of dough playing poker. Of course the law of averages dictate that there will be days when I lost a fair amount, but if you play over a pretty long period then the odds are that a good player will make rather than lose money. The operative word here being "good". But all that stopped when I moved out of Pennstate, first to Houston and then to California. I guess was too lazy to start hunting down local poker rooms where you could go and play.

But then began the age of online poker. No longer did you have to go out to seedy poker rooms or casinos to play, you needed only a computer at your place, download the software, deposit money through something like paypal or your checking account and start playing. But due to various reasons I didnt play too actively when I was at Stanford, only in the past few months or so after moving over to houston did I again start playing poker a bit more rigorously. And that dear readers is also one of the driving reason for the alarming dip in the regularity with which this blog is getting updated and also the reason why the lady in my life is getting stood up more and more. Anyway so over the past few weeks I have again started playing the cash games with regularity, I usually play 2-3 hours a day, 4-5 days a week and on an average I can make 300-400 USD a week.

But that is not the goal here. Maybe, just maybe, in 4-5 years time I can start playing poker full time - professionally and maybe just maybe play in the World series of poker (which by the way has an enrty fee of $25000) and more importantly it would sound ultra cool when that broad asked me what do you for a living, I wouldnt have to harp that damn beaten-down-million-desi-trodden line "Oh I am a research fuckass dickhead scientist", instead I could impress that chick with "I play poker, including strip poker" . For now that remains an elusive dream, but then reality bites dreams dont, though the social life has taken an astounding pounding.

Girl power-- Jai Maa Kali, Kalkattewali

Do any of you guys (and of course the beautiful ladies) remember that great Indian super-hero named Shahenshah? Any bells ringing?? C'mon people its that stupid comic cop by day and a deadly one man protector of the innocent and defenseless by night, wearing a platinum made arm guard that could stop a bullet and a mortar round with equal ease. Hes the one who would mouth that famous line:

Rishtey me to hum tumhare baap lagte hai, naam hai shahenshah

And had his own personal background music which would play every-night when he started his rounds of the streets of Bombay in search of Amrish Puri and his goons that would go:

Andheri raaton me, sunsaan raho par
Har Zulm mitane ko
Ek messiah nikalta hai
Jise log Shahenshah kehte hai

And now maybe a decade and a half or maybe more, after we last heard of that great Indian superhero, he is back again . But this time with a twist. He is back in a female avtaar(s), patroling the streets of our nation's capital and my home town conducting that dreaded "Noodle Strap" Test with the background music going:

Andheri raaton me, sunsaan raho par
Micro-mini pehnane ko
Kahi bandiyan nikalte hai
Jinhe log
Blank noise kehte hai

She stalks the streets of Delhi by the wee hours of the night, wearing body hugging outfits looking for males who dare to even look up at this astonishing sight of a bunch of super-hero she-shahnshahs walking past them in the middle of the night wearing something like a wonder-woman outfit. And any of those poor fuckass, dickhead males who dare to look up is swiftly brought to justice by being reported to that new-age LEAGUE OF JUSTICE by and for the SUPER-HERO FEMALES. Justice is swift, justice is efficient-- the league warns. For my dear old home-town the league has even sterner patroling rules. Agent Jane Smith of the league goes to a street, that would put a damn fish market to shame, in the middle of the afternoon, sashays past a male-beggar in a noodle top and ass hugging jeans (the beggar by the way in all probability has never ever seen any kind of display of any degree of any fair skin in his whole life, agent Smith sashaying by him is therefore equivalent to a girl sashaying on streets of houston in a G-string) and when the beggar looks up from his bowl with the first-in-my-lifetime-sight-for-me-lady look agent smith marks her out for justice.

I, however unlike most of those males who have been brought to justice by this new super-hero female league, am completely smitten by them. These new age she -shahenshahs you see arent a protector of the innocent or the defenseless. They arent worried about issues like child marriage or the plight of that poor muslim woman in the best bakery case, or the plight of dance girls in mumbai's chamiya bars (female-dance-bars) once those closed down. Hell they arent even bothered one bit about the inhuman conditions that exist in Calcutta biggest brothel, Sonagachi. Defending or writing 200 word newspaper articles on these issues lack that cool USP quotient after all. Agent Smith doesnt take up these mundane asignments. Fuck bitch this wont even get me any fodder for my hugely popular desi blog: "the desi-wannabe-feminist-ogre.blogspot", she would complain to the CEO of the justice-league.

Instead, the new age league are the defenders of the sphagetti top, the noodle strap top, the micro mini, the sleeveless kurta worn without a dupatta, the tank top, the hot pants, the body hugging outfit, to be more precise the right to wear them. Their tagline/USP reads :

Inside every salwar kurta-clad woman is another wanting to wear a noodle-strap top.
And by sweet mother mary (note not jesus, jesus is male, the female super-league is strictly prohibited to swear via the male gender) we shall make them wear those.

You see what I mean right. This bunch is exactly my kind of a super-female bunch. What better than to have Indian lassies of all ages , the 20s, the 30s, the aunties, marching around in micro-minis, albeit with mis-shapen asses and thunder-thighs. For starters it would perhaps help to elevate by atleast one standard deviation the abysmally low sexual expression capabilities of the Indian metro-female.

Female liberation has finally entered the new millenium. Gone are the days of BRA-BURNING and enter are the days of the LETS DRESS UP AUNTIE IN MICRO-MINIS. And I for one am really looking forward to visiting Calcutta in a couple of months time. After all micro-mini wearing aunties hopping off that mini-bus would be a great spectacle if nothing else. Though I must warn the league, my mom would take some work before she comes around!!

Some news and some surprise

Ok lets start with some of the news. And before you start getting ideas about the nature of the news, in particular its proximity to the female form, let me clarify, this is good news of the kind that has never before been mentioned in this blog, infact this is the kind of good news that makes the hearts of nerdy geeky people (and no one else mind you) go ga-ga with joy. But hey then again this is that Jhantu blog, so you can be assured though that some mention of the closeness to female forms will come in, maybe a bit later. Now before the subsequent sentences start getting more and more convoluted and ever more confusing and long drawn and before you my dear reader start scratching the top of your head in frustration at the unashamed display of my command or the lack of it of the english language in its written form and scream out O blurt out that fucking good news for petes sake you dickhead fuck, dear readers it is the following:

You see all nerdy research folks and scientists pompously publish unimportant complicated techie papers in completely useless and unimportant scientific journals every year by the tons. But sadly few of them are ever read by anybody, and till date that has been the case with yours truly. But lo and behold, I was at this conference over the past week, when surprise surprise. What do I find but these bunch of Chinese research guys at some big shot company's research division referring and citing with gay abundance about a 4 page work of crap published by one Jhantu on which they seem to have based their entire work. Not just that that work of crap by that one called Jhantu now seems to be the work-horse of that un-named company's production line.

Now believe me when I say this that for us techies seeing our name cited on a random publication or a viewslide in a 20 minute long technical presentation attended by 20 people with gray/no hair, is glamour redefined. We techies you see are satisfied with little. Right from the start (meaning the day we decided to become techies), we know that all our equations and bullet-proof theorems and our super-fast codes are never going to elevate our getting-laid status at a club, the spicy girls are more likely to fall for that chunky truck-driver Chuck, rather than that lanky geeky dude wearing a t-shirt that reads:

And thus we are satisfied with trying to get laid by equally nerdy geeky girls and just to add a pinch of lemon to those out of reach sour grapes we shall say Fucking blonde bimbos who wants to date them anyway, screw those dumb bitches, of course followed by a muffled silent sigh in postscript if only we could.

Anyway without be-labouring the point any more, the bottomline is that we the geeky research folks really get turned on seeing our name displayed on this presentations and tech papers. Thus if your girl-friend or boy-friend or some such character in your life is a geeky techie, and you want to get him/her a really grand halloween present, then come halloween night get dressed in that naughty school-girl uniform (of course dont forget to go commando) and hold one of his pre-prints in your hand and coo to him would you be my professor and teach me how equation number A-4 was derived. And trust me when I say this and believe me I kid you not that you'd be treating that geek in your life to an unforgetable night of 100% pure pleasure if you follow this piece of advise.

But anyway, so I had my one slide's worth of glory in the world of geekies and even had a few students in universities walking upto me and asking me for my email to discuss some aspects of my work that they could not quite follow, but would love to. And I obliged them with my visiting cards in the manner in which Sachin Tendulkar obliges his fans with autographs, feeling all pompous and important and all that shit. Felt good you know, infact felt fucking great.

But then something happened. A few among that bunch of autograph-in-the-form-of-business-card hunting bunch of grads decided to tag along with me for dinner. Now if you have been in a grad school in the US as a geek and been to these conferences, you would know that this is a red-herring with R in caps for that company scientist. Let me explain. The trick that the grad student plays here is that he is out looking for an expensive $100 per person dinner at some posh seafood/steakhouse joint. Of course for those below the poverty line grads a $100 meal is well and truly beynd their reach. So what they do is that they'll get into conversation with a research guy from some company about oh how interested they are in his work. Now the company-research guy being a geeky techie himself, would be overjoyed that some student finds his hitherto crap piece of work so exciting, so that company research guy would take these grad students out to dinner to discuss his work in more details, pick up the tab, and those bunch of grads would get their 100 buck meal, which they were out to look for in the first place.

But what those dickhead grads didnt know is that I am fresh out of school, and for the last four years I have been playing this trick with perfection at numerous conferences. So yea I did take them out for dinner, and being of good heart I did pick up the tab, only the place wasnt Morton's Steakhouse (which by the way serves the best filet mignon in the south coast), but it was Mcdonalds. Game, set and match for Jhantu, I would say!!

And now for the SURPRISE part.

It seems romance has decided to make a comeback into my life. After being sentenced to be in the backseat of thy life for almost an eternity, it seems that she, romance, has decided that it is now time that she would make her presence felt. Now for someone, whose been involved in some of the most eclectic relationships of the heart in the past, allowing romance a foothold is a herculean task in itself. But then pretty hands have a way of tilting the balance:

The princess might kiss the ugly frog and turn him into the prince of his dreams. This might not after all be just tales from the crypt, fairy tales might still come true.
